Residential Care Training – Webinar 4 (Ch: 8 & 9)
Residential Core Training: 40-Hour Core Basic is a foundational training program required by Washington State for long-term care workers. This course provides essential knowledge and skills to effectively support individuals receiving DDA services. Topics covered include agency policies and procedures, Individual Instruction and Support Plans (IISP), Positive Behavior Support Plans (PBSP), rehabilitation skills, and maintaining positive relationships with Service Alternatives clients. Participants must attend Day 1 before progressing through the rest of the training. The first day focuses on core principles such as respect, dignity, boundaries, and the history of conditions qualifying individuals for DDA services. Days 1-5 are conducted via webinar, with additional homework required to meet the 40-hour certification requirements. The skills lab, held in person, completes Chapter 12 of the course. This class is intended for Service Alternatives' Employees, Foster Parents, and SA-served Clients. Practices in Action: Person Centered Planning (909)
Practices in Action: Learning Person-Centered Practices provides an overview of the history of lived experiences of individuals with developmental disabilities in Washington State, from institutionalization to community supported living. Participants will explore the importance of respecting the humanity, dignity, and rights of those we support. This workshop provides an introduction into Person-Centered Practices: supporting individuals in a way that values their perspectives, desires, beliefs, and preferences. You will also become familiar with State requirements related to Individual Instruction and Support Plan, Person-Centered Support Plans, and Habilitative Goals, ensuring your practices are aligned with legal and ethical standards. Additionally, the workshop provides an opportunity for self-reflection to consider how caregivers’ own lived experiences and culture influence their work.

Bite-sized Leadership: Stress Management
Stress Management is designed to help you understand the physiology of stress and how to use this predictable mechanism to reduce the impact of various stressors in your life. During this training, you will explore common stressors and how our reaction to them manifests both psychologically and physically. The workshop will also examine how your stress reactions can impact your relationships and work environment. Through self-discovery and interactive activities, you will develop a personalized stress management plan.
