Service Alternatives is an American Red Cross Authorized Provider. The First Aid/CPR/AED course incorporates the latest science and teaches students to recognize and care for a variety of first aid emergencies such as burns, cuts, scrapes, sudden illnesses, head, neck, back injuries, heat and cold emergencies and how to respond to breathing and cardiac emergencies to help victims of any age – adults (about 12 years and older) and pediatric (infants and children up to 12 years of age). Students who successfully complete this course will receive a certificate for Adult and Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED valid for two years. This class is indented for Service Alternatives' Employees, Foster Parents, and SA-served Clients. Community Engagement and Inclusion training helps us recognize the importance of community and meaningful connections to the individuals we support. The training will identify strategies on how to best engage those we support to be included in the community. The training will also delve into strategies that recognize possible barriers and strategies to overcome those barriers. Community Engagement & Inclusion will help to understand the roles and relationships that we play as professional caregivers. Must attend the full class to receive the certificate. This class is intended for Service Alternatives' Employees, Foster Parents, and SA-served Clients. If you are interested in attending the course and do not fall within those categories, please reach out to the Service Alternatives Training Institute. This class may be eligible for Continuing Education Credits for those who have NOT attended and received CEs during the previous year.

This Supported Living Update meets 6 hours of Continuing Education credits for employees in our Adult Residential Services programs. Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is an evidence-based treatment that has proven results across many different populations. Participants in this class will learn what DBT is and what it is designed to treat. It’s designed to challenge and change perspectives, both in the workplace and outside of it. Attendees will be presented with new ways of thinking about challenging behaviors and gain skills to help manage them. Tools covered include Behavior Chain Analysis (used to process challenging behaviors) as well as Core Mindfulness skills. Using DBT skills to enhance and support daily activities will be highlighted. Intro to Dialectical Behavior Therapy must be taken prior to attending DBT Skills.

Positive Behavior Support is an approach that can help a person overcome a pattern of problem behaviors by focusing on teaching the individual safer, easier, and more effective ways to get needs and wants met. This training focuses on looking at an individual’s behaviors holistically, identifying and teaching appropriate replacement behaviors, and creating ways to reinforce positive behaviors. A strength-based approach is emphasized. Please Note: This is now an in-person, one-day class. The registration for this class will close 1 week before the class starts. Upon enrollment, all participants must include the address to which they wish to have their class materials mailed.

Emotional Intelligence (EQ) is the ability to see your own emotions and those of others accurately and to manage your emotions in ways that enhance, rather than hinder, relationships and produce the results you want. By tapping into the information emotions provide, you will be able to alter behavior and thinking to achieve positive outcomes. Highly developed EQ is the foundation for effective interpersonal communication, conflict resolution, and working with difficult people, clients and coworkers. In practice, Emotional Intelligence is about developing self-awareness and the ability to use that awareness to build and maintain effective relationships. As peoples’ Emotional Intelligence increases, they can better influence others, increase motivation and collaboration in teams, improve communications, and foster flexibility in self and others. Anyone wishing to participate in Bite-sized Leadership Training Series must have already attended either the Elemental Leadership Booster, or completed the current years Introduction to Elemental Leadership 2-Day Webinar and/or 2-day Elemental Leadership full class.
