It’s important to stay up to date on developments in your field of work. It’s just as important to study the past and be aware of the progress that’s been made. Here’ s just one story of what our staff do to stay current and informed!
Last fall, my program manager sent me to the Employment Professional Program at Highline College. The program was three quarters long and covered history, public policy, individualized planning, advocacy, systematic instruction, and behavioral support for/of people with developmental disabilities. We also covered professional networking, marketing, and effective communication. It was wildly eye opening to spend time studying timelines of the history of the treatment and public policy regarding the population of people that we serve. I am encouraged to know how much progress has been made in the last few decades and to know that I have been a part of it!
That’s all for now!
