The Residential Core Training: 40-Hour Core Basic is a comprehensive, state-mandated training designed to equip long-term care workers with the foundational knowledge and skills required to support individuals receiving DDA services. This training covers critical topics such as:
• Agency policies and procedures.
• Individual Instruction and Support Plans (IISP).
• Positive Behavior Support Plans (PBSP).
• Rehabilitation skills.
• How to foster positive relationships with clients in care settings.
Participants will start with Day 1, which is required before attending any other sessions, focusing on respect, dignity, and boundaries—core values that are integrated throughout the entire training. The course is delivered over 5 webinar days, with additional in-person skills lab training that completes the instruction on personal skills. Participants are required to attend all webinars and complete 3.5 hours of homework daily to meet the 40-hour certification requirement.
Supervisors should note that participants will need the full week to complete the coursework and should not be scheduled for shifts during this period to allow for completion of required homework.
This training is mandatory for long-term care workers in Washington State. For more information on attending, please contact the Service Alternatives Training Institute.
