Positive Behavior Support: Expanding the Possibilities is designed for professionals working with individuals with developmental disabilities in residential settings. This training introduces Positive Behavior Support (PBS), an approach that focuses on teaching safer and more effective ways for individuals to meet their needs, ultimately reducing target behaviors and enhancing quality of life.
Participants will learn to apply the Washington State Developmental Disabilities Administration’s Guiding Values in their work. The training covers key concepts, such as setting events and antecedents, teaching participants how to identify and address them to prevent target behaviors. You will also learn to differentiate between target, desired, and replacement behaviors and how to implement effective behavior modification techniques.
This course emphasizes the importance of thorough documentation and includes training on how to use the Washington State PBS plan form. Participants will also learn the critical skill of debriefing after incidents, ensuring that each experience contributes to ongoing improvement and better support for the individuals in their care.
Positive Behavior Support is available through attending a pre-scheduled training session, scheduling an onsite session, or as a Train-the-Trainer model, allowing your organization to integrate this knowledge into your training programs.
