Congratulations to Joel Gibson, Training Specialist with SATI – the SA Training Institute!

At SA, Respect means we honor the unique contributions and experiences of each individual. From our interactions with clients to our relationships with colleagues, we are committed to serving people.   Joel’s nomination stood out for his person-centered approach, his active listening skills, and the deep respect he shows to both his peers and his clients.

The nomination states:

“Joel consistently demonstrates our  value of Respect through his words, actions, and daily interactions with both clients and colleagues. He is intentional about how he speaks about the people we support and the employees he works alongside, ensuring that dignity, professionalism, and empathy are always present. His language reflects a deep regard for individuals as people first, rather than as problems to be solved or tasks to be completed.

This commitment is especially evident in Joel’s person-centered approach to client support. During discussions about how to assist a client more productively, Joel intentionally redirected the conversation toward understanding the client’s preferences and communication style. By asking thoughtful questions and encouraging others to consider how the client experiences interactions, he reinforced the importance of honoring individual voice, choice, and autonomy. At the same time, Joel was mindful of employees involved in the support process, ensuring their perspectives were heard and valued as part of the solution.

In regular check-ins and day-to-day conversations, Joel’s respect for others is evident in both tone and content. He listens carefully, speaks thoughtfully, and acknowledges differing viewpoints. His respect also extends to his peer relationships: when conflict arises, Joel approaches it directly and constructively, prioritizing open conversation and relationship repair. Through these consistent behaviors, Joel models respect as a lived value, embedded in how work is done and how people are treated.”
