Martin Jaika’s nomination highlighted outstanding examples of how he consistently embodies excellence across all aspects of our services and daily operations.

It states:

“We have a staff member who excels in every aspect towards the care of his client, other clients and the company. He embodies all the values SA holds dear.

He works with a client who has high behaviors and is often having to de-escalate situations to stop his client from hurting himself and others; throughout it all he remains calm and collected, only after the client has calmed down he takes the time to evaluate and assess the situation, checking that all affected  are okay, allowing himself the time to recover and then tackling the documentation.

His documentation is precise, thoughtful and thorough.

As is his care for his client. Every day he works he ensures his client gets out his house, creates activities to prevent escalation and to ensure he spends quality time in the community.  He takes his client to the gym several times a week and his client has become enthused about working out.

Martin is respectful towards others, clients, colleagues, strangers in the community – we can guarantee Martin will make them feel seen and welcomed.

On finances he always ensures his client’s petty cash matches Setworks (reconciled) and has often helped retrain other staff members, helping them correctly input expenses or deposits. He also strives hard to help his client’s money stretch – which is not easy when a client only has $20 a week as petty cash and loves fast food and sodas. Yet Martin manages to ensure his client is able to obtain the things that make him happy.

It is not only his client that he extends his care towards, it is all clients served and all team members. He is helpful towards others, willing to try and fix anything or extend a helping hand. He is always willing to help the program on often less desirable shifts (Fridays and Saturdays) or when he has days off from other personal commitments.

Martin looks out for everyone, not afraid to say something when he sees something is not quite right, always advocating for all clients, residential and respite. 

And, last but not least, Martin genuinely makes other people’s lives easier and brighter.
